Virtual Labs

In order to acquire a VMware academic software license for 180-days for course work or research topics, your professor must submit the following information to Computer Science room 111.

  1. Title(s) of the course(s) or research topic(s) in which the student will be using the licenses.
  2. Number of students per course or research topic.
  3. VMware products for which you are requesting the licenses we currently offer student licenses for VMware Workstation for Windows or Linux, and VMware Infrastructure 3.

Faculty and Staff:

In order to install the 32 bit Windows Workstation you must download and sign the agreement form and submit it to Computer Science room 111 or 323.

VMware academic software list:

(VMware AA required)

  • Workstation for Windows version 6.5.x (32 bit version)
  • Workstation for Linux version 6.5.x (coming soon)

Virtual Machines available:

( Virtual Labs Form and MSDN AAA required )

  • Windows XP Pro (SP3)
  • Windows XP Pro (SP3) with Matlab 2007b (Requires a wired connection in the College of Engineering)
  • Windows 2003 Enterprise Server.

Quick Commands

For Windows:

Ctrl+Alt+Insert Equivalent to pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete on the host

For all Clients:

Ctrl+Alt Releases mouse focus from the virtual host and back to the host
Ctrl+G Direct input to the virtual machine

Activation and Snapshots

Windows Activation Required:

  • Upon receipt of your VM AA & MSDN AA, you will received by email a personal License to activate the Windows VM machine. Please make the necessary adjustments on memory or virtual configurations to the machine like network cards, hard drives before activating your VM.
  • You will only be given on license key per operating system Windows XP, Windows 2003 or other Microsoft license software.

Snapshot Feature (Available on the VMware Workstation):

Always take a snapshot of your VM machine when installing software that is experimental so that if it corrupts or is not what you want, you can undo the changes.

  1. Power of your VM machine
  2. On the VMware Workstation go to VM, then select "SnapShot/Take Snapshot", then named your Snapshot
