Managing Your MINERS Class Folder

What is the MINERS Class Folder?

The MINERS class folder has three main features:

1. Students can place their assignments on a shared drive visible to only the student, TA, and instructor. There is no need to email assignments anymore.
2. Instructors and TAs can place handouts and examples on the corresponding folders so students can look at them, but not edit them.
3. Instructors and TAs can share data privately by creating folders outside the three standard folders (Assignments, Handouts, and Examples). Students cannot view the created folders.

How do I request a MINERS Class Folder?

Faculty Members: Please email your class CRN and UTEP Login to sysman@utep.edu. If you have TAs or additional instructors, please include their UTEP login in the email as well.

If any students register late, the TA will need to provide a list of those students' name and UTEP login.

How do I access my MINERS Class Folder?

Your MINERS class folder is located on the MINERS Student File Server. This folder is automatically mapped to the I: drive on the Main lab and Classroom computers. If it is not mapped, then to access this shared folder, you must do the following:

1. On your Windows PC, right click on the Computer or My Computer icon.
2. Click Map Network Drive.
3. For the drive, select I: or any other free letter.
4. For the folder type, enter \\cssfsrv00.cs.utep.edu\classes.
5. If you want the drive to map every time you log in, click the check-box for Reconnect at Login
6. You MUST use your MINERS credentials to map this drive, so click Connect using a different user name.

   

   

7. Click finish.
8. On the authentication window, enter your MINERS login and password.

How do I access the MINERS software engineering folder?

This folder is automatically mapped to the J: drive on the Software Engineering computers. If it is not mapped, then to access this shared folder, you must do the following:

1. On your Windows PC, right click on the Computer or My Computer icon.
2. Click Map Network Drive.
3. For the drive, select J: or any other free letter.
4. For the folder type, enter \\cssfsrv00.cs.utep.edu\seclass.
5. If you want the drive to map every time you log in, click the check-box for Reconnect at Login
6. You MUST use your MINERS credentials to map this drive, so click Connect using a different user name.

   

   

7. Click finish.
8. On the authentication window, enter your MINERS login and password.
